Tally has finally come clean. Do you think she will regret it? Do you think David will change his mind about her?
I don't think she will regret it because she needed to tell him what really happened. I don't think David will change his mind, he just has to get use to the idea.

Should Maddy have forced Shay to take the "cure?" Why or why not?
No because it's not Maddy's decision to make Shay take it, it's Shay's life they're dealing with.
Blog #49
If you were Shay, would you get the cure? Why or why not?
I wouldn't get the cure, because it hasn't been tested on anybody or anything.

Respond to the following quote from the chapter... what does it mean to you? "Tally thought of the lesions on Shay's brain, the tiny cancers or wounds or whatever they are that she didn't even know she had. They were in there somewhere changing her friend's thoughts, warping her feelings, gnawing at the roots of who she was."
Shay doesn't know what she is talking about and says stuff she doesn't mean.

Give a chronological list of important events in the chapter. What's the kicker at the end of the chapter?
- Tally and David finds the others.
- David knocks Dr. Cable out cold.
- David and Tally take everyone and runaway.

Is this quote a play on words, or does it have a deeper meaning to the story? "Radiology. Neurology. Magnetic Imaging," she read softly. "Operating Theatre Two."
I think it has a deeper meaning to the story.
What "labels" do Tally & David find in the Special Circumstances building? Give a BRIEF description of what you think each means.
Interrogation Room One, Interrogation Room Two, Isolation Room One, and Disorientation Room One. I think for the Interrogation Room One and Two are for questioning people because interrogation means question. For the Isolation Room One, they put the people in a room alone, and Disorientation Room One is a room for people who won't cooperate with the operation and maybe kill the person, if necessary.
Describe Shay's appearance at the end of the chapter using textual evidence.
"She was tall and elegant, every feature perfection. Her eyes-deep and soulful..." page 381 ~Uglies

In this chapter a few uglies go to New Pretty Town to do a "trick." They make the words "THE SMOKE LIVES" with sparklers. If you had ONE chance to post a message important to you, what would it be and why?
My message would be "Live your life to the fullest!" because you only have one life to live, and you don't want to miss out on anything.
Blog #44
The Uglies the met in this chapter are similar to Tally at the beginning of the book. When you compare her to these Uglies, how has Tally changed and what has made her change?
Tally changed from wanting to be a pretty to not wanting to be a pretty, and the Smoke changed her thoughts.

Do you think Tally's plan will work? David wants to save his parents, but what's driving Tally? Do you think she is crazy, or are her feelings valid?
I think Tally's plan will work, and Tally probably feels that it is her fault about what happened to Davids parents. In some ways I do think Tally is crazy, but then again her feelings can be valid.

How do David & Tally describe the Rusties? Is it accurate?
They say they were maniacs, idiots, and really stupid. They were right in some ways, but were not always like that.
What are weaknesses of OUR society?
We can be self-centered, and we depend on only some things.
What are weaknesses of THEIR society?
The pretties are bubbleheads, it's not a free civilization.

Find information and a picture about a time we weren't prepared.
The September 11 attacks (often referred to as September 11th or 9/11) were a series of coordinatedsuicide attacks by al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 al-Qaedaterrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners.[1][2] The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. There were no survivors from any of the flights.
2,973 victims and the 19 hijackers died as a result of the attacks.[3] The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals of over 70 countries.[4] In addition, the death of at least one person fromlung disease was ruled by a medical examiner to be a result of exposure to dust from the World Trade Center's collapse.[5]

Describe the irony in Tally's "victory" over Dr. Cable. What was lost in the process?
Tally was able to save the magazines from the Smoke but not save the Smoke itself.

Is David right? Is Tally amazing? Do you think she should be feeling guilty? Why or why not?
I think David is right about Tally making an amazing escape. She should feel guilty because of what she did. We all know she didn't mean to betray the Smoke, but somehow she did.

Who is the voice in the dark? Do you think it will be a friend or enemy to Tally? What do you think Tally will do now?
David is the voice in the dark, and I think he will be a friend to Tally. Tally will help David find his parents and start a new Smoke.

Explain what self preservation means to you. Is it the most important thing? Would you lie because of it?
Self preservation to me is defending your self so you won't get in trouble or harmed. I think it is important but not the most important thing and yes i would lie because of it.

Tally had changed her mind about the Smoke and the operation, but what will she do about all that now? Whose side is she on?
I think she is on the Smokes side and she is gonna try to help the Smoke and David.

Is this the climax of the book? Explain why or why you don't think so in a few sentences.
I think it is because the action is getting intense and it's getting crazier and I think this is the craziest part. It's intense because everyone at the Smoke is running around like maniacs trying to get away from the Specials. Tally is trying to fun away so she won't get caught by the Specials.

Read the following quote David says to Tally. "What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful." Name one person in your personal (home) life and one in your academic life (you may leave them nameless if you wish)... what makes this person beautiful?
My sister is beautiful because she is generous and gorgeous and helps me through what ever I'm going through. The other person is beautiful because they make me laugh, feel good, their my friend, and they are beautiful.

Respond to the following quote, what dose it mean to you/to the story? "Becoming pretty doesn't just change the way you look... it changes the way you think." How would you want to change mentally and physically if you were pretty?
I would want to change physically but not so much mentally. I would like to have the big pretty eyes like they do, and the full lips. I would like to get smarter but not dumber, like they do in the book. If they changed the way I act, then I wouldn't be myself, I'd be someone who I am not.

What does the following quote tell you about the city and society in general? "But you do know about genetics don't you? Sure I know all about genes. I knew two sisters, uglies, who looked almost the same. But parents and children? That's just weird."
It's telling me that they don't know everything about genes like they think they do. Some parents and children look the same but not always.

Find an example of imagery, personification and simile. Quote directly and give page numbers.
Imagery- "The thought of rabbits being killed, skinned, and cooked..." ~Uglies p.243
Personification- "Like walking poison, she killed everything."
~Uglies p.244
Simile- "But the image in her mind didn't give Tally the thrill it usually did; it just felt, like a song she'd heard to many times."
~Uglies p.250

Does it require bravery to meet David's parents, why or why not?
I think it should require bravery because there is a lot to take in if they tell you what they are going to tell Tally. You have to be brave and don't back down.

Do you think Shay has a right to be jealous of Tally? Why or why not?
I think Shay does have the right to be jealous of Tally because David when from Shay to Tally. When Tally wasn't there I think Shay and David had a "thing" going on in between them and when Tally arrived, that went away.

Why would it have been easier for Tally to activate the pendant when she got to the smoke? Explain.
Yes because she wouldn't have to listen to their stories about the Smoke and she wouldn't have to make friends with them and become really close with them.

His parents didn't want to get the operation again probably because they found something wrong with the operation. They didn't want David to be a pretty either.

Shays description of a model i think can be correct to some people but to other people its not close to being correct. Tally and Shay know about anorexic but they think its a made up story that the teachers use to tell them to scare them. Well they are wrong about that, it is true that people think they are fat and don't eat. Shay thinks that being a model is a job and she is right about that.

The people pulled Tally on the helicopter. Tally asked what they were doing and they said they were doing a little burning. They explained to her what burning is because she had no idea what it was. They burn down the delicate little flowers so they don't get out of control. They ask if she's heading for the Smoke and she says yes. They finally drop her off and she has to walk to the "bald head" and wait for day light.
